Understanding types of metals
Gold Filled- A step under solid gold. Tarnish resistant. Hypoallergenic. Affordable and durable. Better quality than gold plated. Base layer metal core of silver or brass surrounded by a thick layer of solid gold.
Sterling Silver- 92.5% fine silver all the way through, 7.5% other metal mixture (usually copper) which adds strength to the metal. Affordable. Hypoallergenic.
Stainless Steel- Known for its resistance for tarnishing, scratching and corrosion. Durable. Low Maintenance. Hypoallergenic. Likely to look darker or duller than other metals. Cannot be cut by ordinary pliers.
Plated Enamel- A layer of enamel is applied over a base metal (Usually brass) and fused together. Lots of colorful options. Prone to tarnishing or losing color and can cause skin irritation or allergic reaction in some people. Not as durable as other types of metals.
